Relationship between name and identity Names are the different ways we refer something to. Variations in names exist to separate and categorize our ideas of one entity with another. The origin of our names are influenced by factors such as personal preference of our parents, beliefs, culture, religion, and history. One’s parents may have a specific idea of the exact name they desire their children to acquire. It may be due to the pleasant sounding of the name itself, or the meaning which the name carries. Some parents believe that by naming their children with names that hold a meaning, those children will live up to/be like that specific meaning. For example, a mother would like to name her daughter Culture impacts a majority of the names in a region. This may be due to the well known meaning of the name in a certain culture, or because of the popularity of the name.
